BEIJING — Mazda and its Chinese partner FAW Car Co Ltd will recall a total of 82,235 vehicles in China due to faulty wheel brake components.

The recall will involve 2,000 imported Atenza vehicles manufactured between April 23, 2013 and November 6, 2013, and 80,235 vehicles domestically-produced between July 31, 2013 and June 29, 2016, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine.

The recall will begin on January 26 next year.

The model in question may have a problematic sealing element in rear-wheel brakes, resulting in brake failure in extreme cases.

Mazda and FAW Car Co Ltd will replace the defective parts free of charge.

Global and Chinese automakers recalled 4.49 million defective vehicles in the first five months of this year, in contrast to 8.8 million vehicles in the first half of 2016.
