According to the Shanghai Disney Resort, the musical play The Lion King will end its tour in China on October 8. By then, there will be a total of 500 performances since the play was first staged on June 14 in 2016.
Premiering in New York in 2007, the two-hour musical has attracted 90 million viewers in the past 20 years.
The Chinese version is the play's ninth non-English edition, which debuted at the Shanghai Disney Resort.
Philippe Gas, general manager of the Shanghai Disney Resort, said the humor and romance in The Lion King echo many Chinese people's inner feelings.
"We saw the musical play made many milestones during its tour in China in the past one year. The success encourages us to make more wonderful shows and performances for Chinese tourists," Gas said.
The Chinese version is translated with a fusion of Chinese dialects. The mix of Peking Opera and pop music aroused more people's interests.
Shanghai Disney Resort said a new musical play will launch in 2018, and more details will be released soon.
