A doctor in Changsha, Hunan province, removed a 2.2-centimeter sewing needle from a boy's heart, Hunan Daily reported on Wednesday.
At 3 am on Tuesday, the 11-year-old boy's mother took him to Xiangya Hospital of Central South University where a CT scan revealed that there was a needle in his heart.
Jiang Haihe, a cardiovascular surgeon from the hospital, decided to operate immediately.
After opening the boy’s chest, Jiang's team spent 10 minutes locating the needle, which had pierced the boy's right ventricle.
The boy's family told Hunan Daily that the needle might have been left in clothes when they were being mended.
