Gao, who pleaded guilty to all the crimes when the trial was held in July last year, said he would not appeal Friday's verdict.

The trial was not open to the public due to privacy concerns over the female victims and the cruel nature of the murders.

Zhang Enwei, a senior police officer with the Baiyin public security bureau who participated in the investigation, said Gao was very calm during interrogations and in court.
