Only fully electric vehicles (EV) will be registered as online ride-hailing taxis in Shenzhen from Aug 1, according to a report by Shenzhen Economic Daily.

In addition, the existing 7,500 taxis in the city will be replaced by EV by Dec 31, the report said.

Before the end of the year, the city will build more than 5,200 sets of fast-charging piles for taxis and more than 5,000 new charging piles in residential areas of the city, the report said.

The General Office of Shenzhen municipal government issued the 2018 "Shenzhen Blue" Sustainable Action Plan this year, requiring the Interim Measures on the Operation and Services of Shenzhen Online Car Hailing Service to be revised before July 31 of this year, Nanfang Metropolis Daily reported.

The report said the city will also formulate encouraging policies to promote the electrification of light diesel vehicles. From May 1, all new added commercial light truck are fully EV and 20,000 commercial light diesel vehicles will be eliminated before December 31.
