A photo exhibition opened at the Overseas Chinese History Museum of China in Beijing on Wednesday to honor the life of Chan Yew-foon (1883-1949), an influential leader in the overseas Chinese community during the early 20th century.

The Exhibition for Commemorating Mr. Chan Yew-foon displays 99 photos reviewing his lifetime, starting with the revolution against Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) rule and the foundation of the republic by Sun Yat-sen alongside his fellow countryman from Xiangshan, Guangdong province, to Chan's long career dedicated to uniting overseas Chinese.

Chan was also known for his trips around the world during the War Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) to raise funds among overseas Chinese in support of the Chinese government's struggle.

Before joining Sun's revolutionary group, Chan was also an overseas Chinese living in the United States. According to Qi Degui, deputy director of the museum, the exhibition not only aims to review the contributions made by overseas Chinese, but also to remember the legacies left by Sun and his followers during their revolutionary careers.

The exhibition will run until July 14.
