La Cage aux Folles
What Following its Broadway premiere in 1983, La Cage aux Folles received nine Tony Awards nominations and won six of them. Based on the 1973 play by Jean Poiret and set in the nightclubs of St Tropez in France, the play was notable for its satirical and entertaining approach to then-taboos such as transvestism and gay marriage, disarming numerous prejudices against alternative lifestyles along the way. Performed in Cantonese with Chinese/English subtitles, this production by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre stars Ko Hon-man, Jordan Cheng, Lau Shau-ching and Mercy Wong.
