The homestay campaign to enhance ethnic unity was launched by the Xinjiang government in 2016, sending more than 1 million officials and government employees at various levels to live, study and work with a local family and to join the family as "a relative".
The film crew, comprising more than 100 members from nine ethnic groups, spent nearly three months shooting the film in the northern part of the Kunlun Mountains in southern Xinjiang.
