HOHHOT - A total of 205 items of wolf leather were recently seized by customs in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
The customs of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia, intercepted an inbound coal truck from Mongolia after they received a tip-off and found 205 items of wolf leather, customs officials said.
The truck driver, a national of Mongolia, admitted to the crime, saying he was paid 2,000 yuan (297 US dollars) by a friend to smuggle the leather into China.
Wolf is protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The trading of wolf products is illegal in China.
The suspect has been put under criminal detention and the case is being further investigated.
