The "2019 International Forum on Clean Power Technology and Engineering &CHN Energy International Forum on Clean Energy", jointly hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and CHN ENERGY,was held in Beijing on May 16-17.

Following a theme of "Dedication to Clean Power and Energy Revolution", the event aims to demonstrate China's scientific and technological achievements in the clean energy sector and strengthen international exchanges in the field.

May 16 marked the opening ceremony and the main forum. Eleven famous experts, including Fatih Birol, executive director of International Energy Agency, and academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, US National Academy of Engineering, and Australian Academy of Science shared their insights.

Extensive discussions concerning the development strategy, technological progress, industrial policy, and engineering management of global clean energy were held. Keynote speech topics and reports varied from clean thermal power technologies to carbon capture and storage technologies.

Li Xiaohong, president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that over the years, he has witnessed profound changes in the world's energy development, from high carbon to low carbon, from low efficiency to high efficiency, from local balance to large-scale allocation. As a major producer and consumer of electric power, China has made significant progress in the green development and clean use of coal, making its due contribution to a sustainable future for itself and all of mankind. But even so, Li said"there is still a long way to go to build a clean energy system".

According to Wang Xiangxi, chairman of CHN Energy, CHN Energy has been earnestly upgrading its industrial structure and made great achievements in ultra-low emission coal and electricity, intelligent and efficient power generation, and coal-to-liquids projects in recent years. The group will work together with all parties to strengthen scientific and technological synergy and innovation, comprehensively promote the clean and efficient use of traditional energy, and support the large-scale development of renewable and new energy.

"We will also speed up transforming China's energy system into a cleaner, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system, making new contributions to global energy change and clean power development," Wang added.

Zhang Jianhua, director of CHN ENERGY, said China's clean energy sector has been developing rapidly in recent years. By the end of 2018, China's total installed clean energy capacity had exceeded 700 gigawatts, accounting for 30 percent of the global total. The installed capacity of hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power reached 350 million, 180 million and 170 million kw, respectively. The first three nuclear power projects have been put into operation, and the total installed capacity of nuclear power under construction has reached 58 million kilowatts.

Four parallel forums also kicked off on May 17, respectively entitled "Clean Thermal Power Generation Technology Forum", "New and Renewable Energy Power Generation Technology Forum", "Smart Power Generation Technology Forum" and "The 5th China International Forum on CO2 Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS)".
