The State Council, China's Cabinet, recently issued a document on strengthening African swine fever prevention and control work.
According to officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China has achieved great success in controlling the African swine fever epidemic.
By July 3, there had been 143 African swine fever outbreaks nationwide, and more than 1.16 million pigs had been culled, which has effectively controlled the spread of African swine fever. With disease effectively controlled, pig selling and the production of pork products have gradually recovered.
Since April, 32,931 official veterinarians have been sent to pig slaughterhouses, and 6,625 slaughtering enterprises nationwide have carried out African swine fever self-inspections.
But China still faces a complicated situation and huge challenge in terms of African swine fever prevention and control in the next stage. The State Council document advances a series of measures to guarantee epidemic prevention and control as well as the stable production and supply of pork products.
To deal with the declining live pig production, measures to support live pig production and temporary production aid will be carried out, and discount loans for pig breeding farms and large-scale pig farms will be launched soon.
