A quarter of 100 sample garments from 76 brands failed to meet national quality standards in a recent examination, Beijing Consumer's Association (BCA) said on Tuesday.

Hugo Boss, Armani, Kenzo, Trendiano, ONLY and AE products were awarded a poor scores in the examination.

The sub-quality garments were purchased at 21 Beijing shopping centers and malls, including Xidan Joy City, Yansha Outlets, Dongzhimen Ginza Mall and Hopson One Mall, as well as one Tmall sportswear store.

The sample products comprised 40 tops, 30 pairs of slacks and 30 pairs of jeans, with prices varying from 39.9 yuan (around $5.8) to 3,800 yuan (around $551.9).

Comparative tests were conducted by a BCA-authorized institution, focusing on five quality issues: product description, fiber content, dry-rubbing color fastness, wet-rubbing color fastness, wash color fastness and pilling.

Among them, pilling is the most common issue.

A total of 25 garments failed to meet national standards – eight tops, six pairs of slacks and 11 pairs of jeans, with unqualified number of these products recording multiple quality problems.

Products of a price range between 200-400 yuan (around $29 to $58) recorded the most sub-quality garments.
