The festival, which has been staged since 2012, has featured more than 400 shows, and it has attracted about 120,000 people.

In 2017 and 2018, the festival also toured in other Chinese cities such as Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenyang, Liaoning province.

Separately, one of the highlights of the current festival is Chinese director Li Zhuoqun's latest production, Hero Wu Song, which features Peking Opera actress Suo Mingfang. Li is known for her Peking Opera works for small theaters, including Yan Xijiao, a 70-minute production that premiered in 2013, and an adaptation of the 14th-century Chinese classic novel Water Margin by Shi Nai'an.

The show has been staged nearly 100 times around the country so far.
