From tanks to sharks, Chinese seek new adventures in travel
Still think skydiving and bungee jumping are cool? Adventure travelers in China are now showing more interest in driving tanks to flatten cars, shark cage diving, and ice diving with the temperature averaging 40 C below zero.
Huang Jiangmin, a travel agency runner, entered the industry of adventure travel in January 2018. Sales at his agency exceeded 4 million yuan ($580,897) last year.
"Experiencing tanks flattening cars would cost more than 20,000 yuan each time," he said. "We received orders of more than 6 million yuan in 2018, but had to drop some bookings due to limited seating. We now provide more than 50 destinations in 17 countries."
Russia, the US and Thailand are the most popular countries for Chinese adventure travelers, and driving helicopters, throwing grenades and seabed motor driving are the most favorite activities, according to Modern Express.
