Elevated 3,650 meters and lying in the center of the Tibetan Plateau, Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world, with its surrounding mountains rising to 5,500 meters.
The city features many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites, such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka Palace – each listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
From July to September, tourists flock to the region for both its scenery and history.
