"In pursuing the Belt and Road Initiative, China is working closely with Kenya and other countries in all fields including establishing a multilateral mechanism for cultural and people-to-people exchanges," Zhao said. "We are boosting educational cooperation and increasing the number of exchange programs for students."

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, China has made a continuous effort to develop its science, technology and education sectors, which have boosted the economic and social development of China.

The scholarship winners are from four Kenyan universities including: The University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Moi University and Egerton University, all of which are pioneering institutions of higher learning in Kenya and East Africa.

"It is impressive to note that these universities have made remarkable progress in academic innovation and international cooperation, which makes them stand out," said the counselor.
