A comprehensive testing base dedicated to autonomous vehicles in Xiangyang, Hubei province, began operation on Sunday.

Covering over 73 hectares, the Dongfeng base is believed to be the first of its kind in China, offering multiple scenario tests for intelligent-connected vehicles with world-leading technologies needed for unmanned driving, including 5G systems, precise positioning and real-time sensing.

The base involves a total investment of 1.6 billion yuan ($228.68 million).
