Wicked maneuvers to poison young minds must be stopped

China Daily Asia | Updated: 2019-12-13 09:03

A number of underaged suspects, including a 15-year-old girl, were arrested this week on suspicion of vandalism. Several students were also detained along with their teacher on Monday for possession of instruments for unlawful use.

These are the latest examples of juvenile delinquency that have cast a shadow on Hong Kong's future. Police said about 40 percent of those arrested during the social unrest in the past six months have been university and secondary school students. This staggering number attests to the huge damage that political demagogues have inflicted on the city's rule of law, one of its cornerstones for maintaining stability and prosperity.

People may remember a sensational slogan used by the initiators and organizers of "Occupy Central" five years ago: "Achieving justice by breaking the law". It might have been new to Hong Kong society back then, but definitely not to millions of victims of "color revolutions" elsewhere in the world.

We have all heard of the "Arab Spring" and "Jasmine Revolution" and probably noticed all those fancy labels popped up under the banners of "freedom" and "democracy". But not many people know they were all orchestrated and funded by foreign forces one way or another. For example, the opposition camp in Hong Kong sent some of its promising "young blood" to Europe to receive intensive training before "Occupy Central", the same kind of training programs run by the CIA throughout the Cold War era under the guise of human rights and democracy "workshops".

Of course, every "color revolution" was tailor-made for the society that it intended to destabilize and did so to varying degrees. But Hong Kong is unique and therefore required a "dress rehearsal" in the shape of "Occupy Central" before the full-on staging of what we have been witnessing in this city since June. Unlike all the previous "color revolutions" in other parts of the world, Hong Kong is being sacrificed to obstruct the peaceful development of its motherland. Those who have been doing all kinds of damage to Hong Kong are merely being used as pawns and ultimately sacrificial lambs for the anti-China forces.

The young offenders will pay for the crimes they've committed in the name of freedom, democracy or any other excuse. Their futures will be bleak, to say the least, after this spell of madness, and it will be too late to blame those politically motivated demagogues for ruining their lives.

Hong Kong society must act without delay to stop those nefarious maneuvers that poison our youth with pernicious ideas and make them tools for promoting certain political agendas. The stakes are high for all of society.
