MOSCOW -- The Russian Armed Forces are capable of fulfilling their mission of guaranteeing peace and national security, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.
"A general analysis of the state of the Armed Forces shows their high combat readiness," Putin said at an enlarged meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry's board.
He said the share of modern weapons in Russia's nuclear triad, which includes land-based missiles, submarines and strategic bombers, has reached 82 percent.
According to Putin, robots and drones have increased the capability of the Russian Armed Forces several times over.
The preparation for the country's defense plan for 2021-2025 will be completed next year, he said.
Putin said it is necessary to evaluate changes in the global military-political situation and conduct a comprehensive analysis of potential military threats, Putin said.
It is also necessary to monitor the possible deployment of U.S. short- and intermediate-range missiles in different regions, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific, he added.
The president stressed that the performance of new Russian weapons should exceed that of their peers.
"If we want to win, our technology must be better than world-class models. This is not a game of chess, where we can have a draw sometimes," Putin said.
