China is likely to witness quick momentum in the consumer genomics market as more and more people are paying to explore what make them different through DNA tests, according to industry insiders.

"China has great potential in the consumer genomics testing sector. Compared with that of some developed countries, the market is still in its infancy in the nation," said Danny Yeung, co-founder and CEO of CircleDNA, a Chinese consumer genomics testing startup.

Many are succumbing to unknown diseases but most don't know that 80 percent of major diseases including some cancers can be prevented, he said.

"Here is where genomics testing firms like us can engage in, where we are able to leverage technology to help people fully understand their health like potential risks so that they can prevent them in advance," he added.

In addition to disease preventing, Zhou Daixin, co-founder and CEO of BerryGenomics, said that the consumer genomics testing can also play a role in helping people to better know themselves.

"With such advanced techs, people may get better understanding of where their talent is. Also, they can be guided correctly in how to use daily medication," Zhou said.
