On Jan 9, a press conference to promote the opera On the Way to Alleviate Poverty was held in Beijing.
The opera highlights the story of Huang Wenxiu, who worked on poverty relief until an accident last year took her life at the age of 30 in Baise city of South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Based on Huang's story, the opera aims to show the experience of poverty alleviation in China. "We want to record China's poverty alleviation cause in the art form. The process of creating this opera is also a process of learning from our people, and being touched by them," said Tian Qinxin, general director of this opera.
The cast visited Baise many times and talked with local farmers and officials who worked on poverty alleviation to gain inspiration for the opera.
The opera will be staged in Baise in March, and then tour to Nanning city, Guangxi in July and August before finally heading to Beijing in October.
