Fifty-eight taxi drivers from Songlei Taxi Company distributed facial masks and disinfectant in urban areas of Harbin, capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on Wednesday.

Divided into four groups, the drivers distributed 1,200 facial masks and 600 bottles of diluted disinfectant to the sanitation workers, deliverymen, food delivery drivers and local residents on the streets.

Furthermore, they helped disinfect some taxis and private cars whose drivers needed them cleaned.

"Although we receive quite a few passengers due to the ongoing novel coronavirus every day, we hope we can do more for society," said An Kongchen, head of the company's volunteer drivers' team. "All team members and some other drivers volunteered to join in the activity."

"Those who have to work outside need more protection," he added.
"Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus, residents have suffered a shortage of protective equipment and disinfectant products in our city, so we urgently purchased some disposable protective masks and disinfectant from other cities," said Zeng Fanshuang, the company's general manager. "We hoped to provide some help to those people in need."

"We are still trying our best to purchase more, and such activities will continue as soon as we get the prevention materials," he added.
