China is among the 10 countries with the most Airbnb female hosts in the world, and about 67 percent of the female hosts are from the post-1980s, 1990s or 2000s generations, according to a report released by online shared accommodation booking platform Airbnb.

The report said as of Feb 10, 2020, 53 percent of active home hosts in China are women, with millennials and generation Z female hosts being the main force in the Airbnb China community.

In 2019, Airbnb's female hosts are expected to earn $14.9 billion through shared accommodation. China ranks eighth in terms of female hosts' earnings.

Moreover, Chinese female hosts show hospitality in their own way. 37 percent of female home hosts who hosted more than 150 times and gained 100 percent five-star reviews in 2019 are from China.

In the same year, 88 percent of reviews received by Chinese home hosts are five-star reviews, higher than the percentage of worldwide female hosts at 83 percent.

Women are more active in the host community as well. 67 percent of Airbnb's Chinese community team leaders are female. As representatives of Airbnb hosts, leaders connect hosts to the platform. Since 2017, they have organized more than 200 community events to establish close relationships for hosts, learn from each other and grow together, the report said.

The 10 Chinese cities with the most female hosts are Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Qingdao and Wuhan.

The report also noted the 10 Chinese cities where the number of female hosts is growing the fastest are Xishuangbanna, Quanzhou, Dandong, Jinhua, Luoyang, Chengde, Baoshan, Shijiazhuang, Changchun and Datong.

Peng Tao, president of Airbnb China, showed his confidence in the recovery of the short-term home rental and homestay services industry when the outbreak of the novel coronavirus ends, as search volume of domestic listings for this year's Labor Day holiday surged over 2.5 times compared with the same period last year.

Female tourists also have diversified demands for destinations. Four of the top 10 trending destinations booked by women worldwide in 2019 are in China, namely Changsha of Hunan province, Sanya of Hainan province, Lijiang of Yunnan province, and Beihai of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Chinese female travelers tend to book various types of homestays, such as houseboats, cottages and serviced apartments. Increasingly, they prefer to travel alone. In 2019, Chinese female travelers who did domestic travel on their own increased more than 1.6 times year-on-year.
