The Dunhuang Academy teamed with Chinese tech giant Huawei recently to launch an immersive way to show off the cultural relics of the Mogao Grottoes in Gansu province using artificial intelligence technology.

Huawei's newly released artificial intelligence platform, Hetu, is being integrated with Digital Dunhuang, a website offering scholars, Buddhists and anyone with an interest in Buddhist history, art, and culture a 360-degree virtual tour of the ancient grottoes.

The result is a truly immersive fantasy experience for visitors.

The grottoes, sometimes called the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, are a system of 500 temples southeast of Dunhuang, an oasis at a religious and cultural crossroads of the ancient Silk Road.
