To implement China's national strategy of sustainable ecological development and contribute to the country's high-quality economic and environmental development, the national demonstration base for mine ecological rehabilitation research and cooperation of China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) was recently launched in Hubei province's Yidu city.

The base will also serve as a demonstration project of the Committee for Sustainable and Green Mining as part of the International Ecological Economy Promotion Association, building a modern green mine and promoting transformation and upgrading of mining enterprises.

About 100 experts, officials and executives from across the world, IEEPA, local government and enterprises attended the inauguration ceremony.

Tan Jianguo, the Party chief of Yidu city, said the city can better become a model in high-quality development of both economy and environment with support from the university and IEEPA.

Peng Suping, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and director of the committee, said mines everywhere are adopting green and energy-efficient development paradigm, and it is important to obey laws and regulations as well as learn from successful foreign practices when developing green mines.

Peng, who is also a professor at the university, said the university and the committee will cooperate with Yidu government and local mine enterprise including Hao Fei Mining to supervise and ensure the development of the green mine project.
