A suicidal man in Jinan, Shandong province, was saved after bidding farewell to the world in a letter posted to his social media account on Monday. The letter triggered more than 700 replies from netizens, who offered cheerful messages of support. Some called the police for help.

"Thank you for everyone's care and help," the man said in a posting on Wednesday. "I was saved by all of you."

In the letter, the man, who is in his 20s, said he was too tired to hold on any longer. He also expressed his love to his family members.

Many netizens asked where he was and tried to cheer him up. "Hold on — would you like to see tomorrow sunrise?" and words such as "stay with us", and "share your story with me, I would like to talk with you". Some invited him to go to the park with them.

The police found the man on Tuesday based on the location of his post, the Jinan public security bureau said.

Pictures posted by the man in January showed that he had medicines for treating depression.
