China's automotive industry is poised to recover to the level of the previous year in 2020, the country's top economic regulator said on Wednesday.

Meng Wei, spokeswoman with the National Development and Reform Commission, said the main indicators, such as value-added industrial output, will be better than last year.

"China's auto production and sales are likely to hit about 25 million units this year, similar to that of the previous year," Meng said at a news conference in Beijing. "And the production and sales of new energy vehicles are expected to exceed that of 2019."
