Motorola unveils new flagship handset for China

Motorola unveiled on Tuesday night its latest flagship mobile phone edge s in China, powered by chip giant Qualcomm Inc's Snapdragon 870 chipset, in a bid for a bigger slice of the pie in the world's largest smartphone market.

Priced from 1,999 yuan ($309), the Motorola edge s features a 6.7-inch full high-definition LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 21:9 aspect ratio, bringing a smoother and faster speed experience for gamers and video viewers.

It comes with six cameras in total, and the quad-camera array consists of a 64 megapixel primary lens assisted by a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP depth sensor and a time-of-flight or ToF sensor. A 5,000mAh battery is also included, and it supports 20W turbo charging.

There will be 6GB and 8GB RAM variants available with 128GB of storage, or an 8GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage.

Worldwide smartphone vendors shipped a total of 354.7 million units during the third quarter of 2020, a decline of 1.1 percent on a yearly basis when compared to the 358.5 million units shipped in the third quarter of 2019, according to market consultancy IDC.

Last year, the Lenovo-owned smartphone brand launched its premium 5G-powered foldable mobile phone Razr, which can fold to the size of a wallet and fit in people's pockets or bags.
