Boasting a pristine natural environment, pleasant climate all year round and relaxed way of life, Suzhou in Jiangsu province is described in a famous Chinese saying as the "paradise on Earth".

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through Suzhou. Forty-two percent of the city is covered by water, with numerous lakes, canals and streams. The water towns in Suzhou such as Zhouzhuang and Tongli are renowned for their arched stone bridges and bustling canal-side streets.

Kunqu Opera, oiled paper umbrella, nut carving, Taohuawu woodcut and crispy cakes in the ancient towns also present a unique charm of Suzhou.
