100 Years on the Red Boat

On Nanhu Lake in Zhejiang province's Jiaxing rests one of China's most famous water vessels, "Red Boat," which honors the conclusion of the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 1921. Visitors across China flock to pay homage to the historical boat replica as the Party prepares to celebrate its centenary in July.
In July 1921, delegates from the Party's early organizations held the meeting secretly in a typical Shikumen-style residence in Shanghai, but was interrupted on the seventh day due to a search by police in the French concession, and all the delegates moved to this boat to finish the meeting.
