What's behind Chinese parents' anxiety about education?

I'm a student and I know my parents care about me a lot. It is the traditional thinking that they want to decide what's best for their children. But I have learned to ignore my parents and do what's best for myself.

Because the parents worry too much they sometimes put pressure on their children without noticing what they have done. I'm fairly blunt at times and when I counter them they are surprised... somewhat I guess they just want their children to succeed but without knowing the limits of their own children.
