The Changsha Subway Digital Art Museum, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, has now become a new and hot tourist attraction in Changsha, Hunan province.

The special museum, the first-of-its-kind in the country, includes six large-scale three-dimensional LED art installations which transform the original ordinary subway commuting space into an art space full of sense of science and technology and fashion, demonstrating the unique humanistic temperament of Changsha that has become an internet celebrity city on the mainland.

Built in an interchange metro station of the city's subway line 2 and line 4, the museum, which covers more than 2,000 square meters floor space, with alternating light and shadow, is now attracting more than two million passenger and visitor trips daily.

"We use the post-modern deconstruction method to build the museum into a tunnel-like architecture, and the tunnel connects the past with the future, history with modernity," said Li Shaobo, chief designer of the museum.

It took more than six months to construct the museum and all exhibition contents are presented dynamically, said Li.

It is the first domestic media art installation with double 8K standard, and also the first subway digital media art museum in China, Li said.

Li added that unlike other art exhibitions in metro stations in many other countries and regions around the world, Changsha Subway Digital Art Museum broke the traditional and solid space art exhibition forms, and presents it as streaming media for the first time, meaning the content can be constantly replaced and updated.

And the museum is expected to become a new tourist destination during the upcoming May Day holiday beginning on Saturday.
