A singing competition was held by the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region's department of culture and tourism on May 25 to raise the curtain on a series of activities celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The singing competition kicked off at the region's cultural center in Urumqi, where choruses from villages, communities or government organs gathered to perform classic songs telling touching stories about how the Party struggles to bring Chinese people better lives.

Other activities, including movable exhibitions, speeches, concerts and flash mob performances, will also be held by the department to enable people from different backgrounds know more about the history of the Party and deepen their cultural life.
