Foreign Ministry condemns Blinken's visit to Dalai Lama rep

The Foreign Ministry on Thursday opposed United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken's meeting with a representative of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi, demanding Washington stop providing any support to anti-China separatist activities by "Tibetan independence" forces.

China firmly opposes officials from any country to contact the Dalai Lama, ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a daily news conference.

The 14th Dalai Lama is not just a religious figure, but a political exile who has long engaged in anti-China separatist activities and plots to separate Tibet from China, he noted.

Zhao said the US action violated its commitment to recognize Tibet as part of China and not support Tibetan independence or activities to split China.

The US should stop using Tibet-related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs, he said, adding the country will take all necessary measures to safeguard its interests.
