This year marks the 70th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. Over the past 70 years, the region has made remarkable development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The average personal income of farmers and herdsmen in the region has sustained double-digit growth for 18 years in a row, hitting 14,598 yuan ($2,248) last year, or 135 times that of 1965.

The Party has always attached great significance to the development of Tibet. Under the coordination and planning of the Party, the whole country, particularly the more developed coastal regions have been doing all they can to support the development of Tibet in various forms, providing funding and personnel and technological assistance.

Since the Party's 18th National Congress was held in Beijing in late 2012, the Party has further adjusted its development plan for the region to better satisfy the needs of the people, paying more attention to guarantee the unity, stability and high-quality development of Tibet.

The stable and fast development of the region over the past few years is a testimony to the effectiveness of the policy adjustment.

As China strives to become a modern socialist country by the middle of this century, Tibet should strengthen its ecological preservation efforts and seek to realize sustainable development.

To help Tibet better meet the challenges, the Party has provided the region with a road map to follow, which requires the region to attach more significance to ecological protection and green development, social stability and unity, and high-quality development, particularly in the border areas so that Tibet can consolidate its role as a security screen for the country.

Also, the Party will continue to make unswerving efforts to improve public services in Tibet, so that the people can have more jobs, enjoy better education, medical care and nursing services for the aged.

These endeavors will enhance local residents' sense of gain, happiness and security.
