More than 333 hectares of bamboo shoots were the first crop of the harvest season in Chishui, Guizhou province.

Local villagers have been working against time to dig out fresh bamboo shoots and package them for shipment to markets in Chongqing and Shanghai.

Some lower than 40 centimeters will be purchased by retailers, because the value will diminish as the bamboo grows longer and older. Generally, those longer than 40cm will be used for basking and processed into dried bamboo shoots.

Bamboo forest yields have been improved and the crop in Chishui has been grown with scientific planting and management, which helps farmers increase their income.
