The six-episode documentary Chasing the Red Star began airing on Tianjin TV on Sunday, and a ceremony to celebrate its broadcast was held in Beijing on Friday.

The production tells the story of six foreign members of the Communist Party of China, including Shafick George Hatem, a Lebanese-American doctor who practiced medicine in China, Hans Müller, a German-born Ashkenazi Jewish physician, and Polish-born Chinese journalist and author Israel Epstein.

Since 2020, crew members traveled to several places in China to interview, film and make the documentary in 16 months. Some of the documents they collected have never been made known to the public.

"Today's gathering makes us commemorate the special CPC members. Their spirits and contributions still exert far-reaching influence on modern times. But their names are not known to most people, so we decided to tell their stories," said Song Linxuan, general director of the production, at the ceremony.
