China's electricity consumption up 10.3% in 2021

China saw electricity consumption exceed 8.3 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2021, up 10.3 percent from 2020, the National Energy Administration said on Monday.

Total power consumption last year was up 14.7 percent compared with the level in 2019, it said.

Electricity consumption in primary industry reached 102.3 billion kilowatt-hours, up 16.4 percent year-on-year, while that for secondary industry reached 5.6 trillion kilowatt-hours, up 9.1 percent year-on-year.

Power consumption in the tertiary industry rose 17.8 percent year-on-year to more than 1.4 trillion kilowatt hours, the administration said.

Electricity consumption of urban and rural residents rose 7.3 percent year-on-year to exceed 1.17 trillion kilowatt hours, it said.
