DPRK to resume hard-line policy towards Washington after new US sanctions

PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea decided to make more thorough preparation for a long-term confrontation with the United States, who has announced fresh sanctions against it, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Thursday.

The decision was made during a Politburo meeting convened on Wednesday to discuss important policies, which include "reconsidering" concessions made previously to the United States in response to its latest "hostile" actions.

The Politburo "instructed the field concerned to reconsider all the confidence-building measures previously and voluntarily taken by our state and rapidly examine the issue on resuming all actions which had been temporarily suspended," the report said.

After the DPRK-US summits in 2019, the United States held many joint war drills with South Korea which it has committed to suspending, and conducted tests of different kinds of strategic weapons, while shipping ultra-modern weapons into the Republic of Korea and deploying nuclear strategic weapons in and around the Korean peninsula, seriously threatening the security of the DPRK, it noted.

The meeting also confirmed the tasks of defence policy to immediately strengthen and develop more powerful physical means to suppress the growing hostile acts of the United States against the DPRK.

Last week, Washington announced fresh sanctions targeted six people of DPRK in response to Pyongyang's latest ballistic missile tests.
