On January 20, one day before the first group of the British Winter Olympics team set off for Beijing, Ambassador Zheng Zeguang visited the British Olympic Association (BOA) and met with its Chair Sir Hugh Robertson and CEO Andy Anson. The two sides had friendly exchanges of views.

Ambassador Zheng briefed the UK side about the venues, facilities and Covid-19 measures of the Beijing Winter Olympics and extended welcome to the Team GB. With the Games opening in 15 days, he said, the preparations are basically completed. Beijing 2022 is a grand international sports event and China has the confidence and capability to present to the world a simple, safe and splendid Olympics. It is hoped that all the relevant parties will uphold the Olympic spirit and make due contribution to the mutual understanding and friendship between peoples and the solidarity and cooperation between countries.

Ambassador Zheng said that China-UK cooperation in the field of sports enjoyed a sound basis and hoped that the two sides would take the Beijing 2022 as a new starting point to work even more closely. The Chinese side stands ready to provide necessary assistance and facilitation to Team GB in their forthcoming trip to China, he said, before wishing the British athletes success.

Sir Hugh Robertson and Mr Andy Anson welcomed the visit by Ambassador Zheng and thanked the Chinese side for the thoughtful facilitation provided to the British Winter Olympics team as they get ready for the Games in Beijing. The UK side has maintained close and sound communication with the Organising Committee of the Beijing Olympics. The BOA appreciates the meticulous and professional arrangements that the Chinese side provides to all participating athletes. It is fully confident that the Beijing Olympics will be a success. The BOA would like to take the Games as an opportunity to promote further progress in the exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK on sports.
