China's passenger car sales drop in January

BEIJING -- Sales of passenger cars in China last month declined from a year ago, an industry association said.

Retail sales of passenger vehicles dropped 4.4 percent year-on-year to 2.09 million units in January, data by the China Passenger Car Association showed.

Monthly, the sales declined by 0.6 percent, CPCA data showed.

In 2021, sales of passenger cars in China rose 4.4 percent, year-on-year, to 20.15 million units as demand for new energy vehicles continued to underpin market growth, CPCA data showed.
