Although he has rich flying experience, Farinon said he needs to train continually and accumulate as much experience as possible. Weather conditions, for example, are a bit different from Singapore, which is closer to the equator.

Farinon also serves as an administrator for the airline and provides technical communication for the crews.

"Fabio is rigorous, studious and warmhearted. He often helps foreign and Chinese co-pilots tackle issues involving flight," said Wu Yao, a staff member in charge of foreign captains for West Air.

On his days off, Farinon spends most of his time with his wife and their two daughters. He said he loves the city and enjoys local cuisine, especially hotpot.

"Chinese culture is just like hotpot, in which any food can be cooked. And the open and diverse culture helps me better fit in the city," he said.
