The technologies on display at the ongoing Winter Olympics will be available for the city's development in the post-Winter Olympics period, so that ordinary people can access and enjoy their applications. This was stated by Xu Qiang, director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, at a news briefing on Wednesday.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is not only a sporting event but also a show of new technologies, from artificial intelligence and machine vision to simulation technology and smart venues. Be it at the opening ceremony, the competition arenas or the awards podium and auditorium, people are impressed with the "high-tech Olympics" they are witnessing. Therefore, it will be worth it if these technologies continue benefiting everyone even after the Winter Olympics are over.

For example, smart venue technologies tailored for the Olympics and available in some large public buildings in the city's sub-centers should be extended to all public facilities. The Winter Olympics is a treat for the lovers of ice and snow sports, as well as industry practitioners. The research and development behind the production of ice and snow sports equipment and facilities and the sports itself can enthrall residents and stimulate a larger and more mature market after the Olympics.

The new paradigm of 5G network application created by the Beijing Winter Olympics has also broken through the low temperature and strong wind barriers and will help expand 5G application scenarios.

The Winter Olympics could help further promote the development of low-carbon industries, given the increasing use of green electricity technology, carbon dioxide icemaking technology, smart transportation technology and a few other technologies at the Games venue.

The original intention of technology is to create a better life. In the post-Beijing Winter Olympics era, persistent efforts are still needed to absorb and digest the scientific and technological fruits of the Winter Olympics to release their social benefits to the maximum.
