Tenzin said the 143 participants come from the city's eight counties and districts, as well as from other places in the region and other provinces.

As of June, Lhasa had more than 1,100 market entities for ethnic handicrafts, accounting more than 44 percent of the region's total. More than 9,000 people were engaged in industries related to ethnic handicrafts, Tenzin said.

The annual output of ethnic handicrafts hit 1.2 billion yuan ($187 million), accounting for more than 63 percent of the region as a whole. More than 500 kinds of art and craft products are sold at home and abroad, he said.
