From farmer to food courier: A success story

Over the past four years, Zhang Shuo, 28, has helped over 300 poverty-stricken people and provided around 1,000 jobs to residents of Hegang, Heilongjiang province.

He spent a year to become manager of the online food delivery platform Meituan branch in Hegang.

The All-China Federation of Trade Unions recently announced this year's May 1 Labor Medal laureates. Zhang was listed among 966 workers because of his enterprising spirit, outstanding performance in poverty alleviation and sense of social responsibility during the COVID-19 epidemic.

On April 30, he was honored with the title Most Beautiful Worker by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

Zhang, who was born in Dongsheng village in Hegang, grew up helping his parents grow rice. During the slack time in the summer of 2018, he took a job as a courier for Meituan.
