Starting Monday, a small number of scheduled domestic flights originating from Shanghai began to resume flying on the premise of meeting the COVID-19 prevention requirements of destination cities, according to domestic carriers.

Juneyao Airlines, a Shanghai-based private carrier, resumed its round-trip flights that connect Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Longyan of Fujian province. The flights operate on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.

This is the first domestic passenger flight originating from Shanghai since the city began citywide static management in April. Other domestic passenger flights that fly in and out of Shanghai will be gradually resumed, Juneyao Airlines said.

On Wednesday, Shanghai-based budget carrier Spring Airlines will resume its daily round-trip flights between Shanghai and Kunming, Yunnan province. Spring Airlines will also operate a flight from Shanghai to Dalian, Liaoning province, to transport students on Wednesday, and it will only be open to students who are studying in Shanghai and have permanent residences in Dalian.

Currently, passengers entering and leaving Shanghai follow the principle of "not leaving the city unless necessary", according to the requirements of the local government. Those who leave Shanghai need to have proof of negative nucleic acid test results taken within 48 hours and negative antigen result taken within 24 hours.

"The resumption of flights indicates that the pandemic prevention and control in Shanghai has entered a new stage. It's good news that flights are being resumed in an orderly manner in the city," said Lin Zhijie, an aviation industry analyst and a columnist at Carnoc, a major civil aviation website in China.
