A combination of measures have been implemented to curb the amount of drugs being smuggled into China, with immigration authorities seizing some 4.3 metric tons of narcotics and 487 tons of drug-production materials this year, the National Immigration Administration said on Friday.

They had also captured 376 suspects in border areas and resolved 277 drug-related cases by June 22, 73 cases of which involved amounts in excess of 10 kilograms.

Authorities have cooperated with local governments and residents in border areas to enhance preventive mechanisms, curbing the flow of drugs into the country and drug production supplies from being smuggled out of China.

Immigration authorities will keep up with the latest developments in drug-related crimes, such as methods of possession, groups involved in trafficking and their methods, and adjust the deployment of inspection stations to tighten border detection, said an official with the administration.

In addition, intensive anti-drug publicity will be carried out among border residents to raise awareness, and further block the infiltration of narcotics from abroad, he said.
