Zhang Jing, a fourth-generation inheritor of hemp weaving — an intangible cultural heritage of Ningxia — started her workshop in 2017 to train local villagers on weaving techniques.

"Starting from simple articles such as cup mats, many of the villagers have become skillful enough for more complicated things," Zhang said.

She said many of the trainees are elderly, disabled or women who stayed home when their husbands migrated to distant places for work.
