Chinese EV startup Xpeng launches flagship SUV G9

Chinese electric vehicle startup Xpeng launched the mid-and-large-sized flagship SUV G9 on Wednesday, which is the fourth production model of the EV maker.

The SUV, expected to be delivered in late October, is available in six variants and has three range options: 702 kilometers, 650 km and 570 km.

The G9 is 4,891 millimeters long, with a wheelbase of 2,998 mm. It can generate a maximum output of 405 kilowatts and a top torque of 717 Newton meters. Its acceleration from 0 to 100 km per hour reaches 3.9 seconds.

The new model adopts Xpeng's second-generation driving-assist system and its latest voice recognition system can take commands from different parts of the cabin and understand successive instructions.

The G9 boasts a new powertrain system using China's first 800 V mass-production Silicon Carbide platform.

At Xpeng's new 480 kW S4 supercharging stations, the model can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in only 15 minutes. Xpeng said it aims to open 2,000 supercharging station across the country by 2025.
