Scholars around the world praise China's shared future vision

On Thursday, scholars from China and abroad hailed the China-proposed vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, saying it contributed to global human rights governance.

They made the remarks at a side event of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which was sponsored by China Society for Human Rights Studies and held in an online and offline manner.

As the right to subsistence and development are inalienable and fundamental human rights, they noted China, putting people front and center, has achieved quite a lot in terms of protecting human rights both at home and abroad under the guidance of the vision.

Zhou Changjun, director of the Human Rights Research Center of China's Shandong University, said that the vision holds great importance.

It calls for building an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity, which not only responds to general human rights issues but also offers guidance to challenges of the times such as climate change, Zhang added.

Anna Malindog-Uy, director and vice-president for External Affairs of the Asian Century Philippines Strategic Studies Institute, said China's eradication of absolute poverty is an unprecedented and outstanding achievement.

With precise and targeted programs and strategies, Beijing has realized goals of poverty reduction, ten years ahead of the schedule from the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, she said.

"China is a living example and a symbol of hope for the developing world that absolute poverty can be defeated," she added.

China's public goods with global influence, be it the Belt and Road Initiative or the Global Development Initiative, are all based on the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, said Larry Catá Backer, a professor of Pennsylvania State University in the United States.

It proves that China pursues a more balanced global development and a fairer international order, he added.

For two thirds of all countries in the world, China is their largest bilateral trading partner and thus Beijing's policies play a significant part in the development of almost all developing countries, said Saikat Bhattacharya, an associate professor of New Integrated Public University in India.

The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, by championing the equality of countries regardless of their sizes, mutual benefit and win-win results, strengthens state-to-state relations and helps people live a life with dignity, he added.

Liu Hongzhen, deputy director of the Human Rights Research Center of China's Jilin University, said the vision requires respecting the common values of humanity and the diversity of human civilizations, and opposes using human rights as a tool which is conducive to building an open, inclusive, fair and equitable system of human rights governance.
